The portal city of Hamburg was not at all what I expected. Heading from the nearby airport into the city I was fascinated with the “green-ness” of this 1.7 million person city chock full of 5 million trees.
As my friendly airport taxi cab driver explained to me “Even the airline pilots flying into Hamburg for the first time have a moment of panic seeing all the trees, thinking something must be wrong with their plane’s navigation system- it just cannot be possible to have a huge city airport in the middle of a forest!”

They were fascinating little works of art made from wood, metal, paper, geese, chickens and more! The details, colours and themes were varied; from geometrics, animals to little little Swiss children playing. What could be more Spring-like than spending an afternoon at the Spielzeugmuseum (Toy Museum) in Reihen, Switzerland at their Easter boutique? Meandering into the small courtyard filled with tiny wooden stalls of handmade goods, I am especially drawn towards the tenderly stitched fabric chickens right beside a nearby a caged area of straw with real bunnies peering about. I start to feel as if I had stepped back in time. With a medieval church and castle on the hill overlooking this little hamlet, I really do wonder if I have been dropped into a fairy tale where I might see a troll or fairy perched on one of the window sills of this enchanted village.
